Who would've thunk it!?
Run into the restroom after the movie lets out...and dammit there is already a line! The only available stall is the handicapped stall. I say to myself, "well we all have a handicap, right?" So I go in --- so not to go "on" myself! Just as I am about midway through my pee (yuck -- i know, i know)... someone starts banging on the door and yelling "Come outta there!!" "This is for handicap use!!" I stop midstream! This cant be happening. You know, I have always pictured something like this happening in a parking lot when I park in a handicapped parking space (yes, I am guilty of that too--AHHH!) but NEVER in a million years did I ever think that I would encounter this in a public restroom...
"Helllloooooooooooo, I have to PEE and I, unlike YOU, am in a wheelchair!" "Oh shyt, oh holy shyt!" I think but for some reason cant seem to form a word! "Uhmm, okay, uh one sec."
She knocks again -- and this time someone else yells. "Who would DO something like that!?" The woman in the wheelchair says "An idiot, moron!" with much bitter emphasis on the word idiot. So I quickly finish up. By now the pee has been scared out of me and all I want to do is fiqure out where the button for the "hole in the floor" is. I just want to get outta there without being seen! After realizing no such button is in sight... I slowly emerge saying "Sorry, sorry really had to go." She says... "Yeah, uh-huh and so do I (DRUMROOOOLLLLL)....Bitch!" And she rolls into the stall!
WHOA!!! In my head "How do I respond? How do I respond?" Wanting to kick the door behind her I instead skip pass the sinks without looking up (nope, dont even wash my hands) and hot tail it out of there!! I was sooooo embarassed!
Am I the only one who uses the handicapped restrooms?

It is never alright for able bodied people to use handicapped facilities, never ever. You (understandably) have no idea what a freaking difficult ordeal it can be for us to take a simple pee. And I'm sorry to say that able bodied people who take wheelchair parking are criminal and heartless. I have been physically threatened and verbally abused trying to exercise my right to special parking. May we all try harder to consider our sisters' special needs. You should have tried harder to make ammends to her, take her cussing like a woman, express your sincere apologies and promise to never do it again. You are your sister's keeper. Bright blessings.

I couldnt agree with you more. We live and we learn. I hope you read enough of this to see I had apologized. At any rate, we are each others sister, I concur. Maybe I should have reminded her that verbal abuse is never sisterly either and does nothing to advance women or explain (as you so eloquently did) to the able bodied women why this behavior should NEVER be repeated. But I digress and again -- I live and learn everyday. Thank you Lynn!!

Totally not, as evidenced by this post that I wrote back in July. I swear you must be reading my MIND! ;)
The rule seems to be that if no handicapped individuals are present then non-handicapped individuals have the right to use those toilets. The same way that "Priority Seating" works on the subway and in buses. There's no law taht says the stall must remain empty until needed, is there??

I'm reading Lynn's response now. While I would never even BEGIN to try and understand what daily living is like for the disabled, I don't, under ANY circumstances, think it is appropriate behavior for someone to become verbally abusive. I just don't see that being an acceptable response.
It's unfortunate that you happened to be using the stall when a disabled person needed to make use of it. But that still doesn't excuse rude behavior.
Just my two cents. :)

I am 100% with Nicole on this one. Using a bathroom stall is not the same as using a parking spot. She had no right to be verbally abusive. She was lucky it was you, and not someone else, with less patience and a mean streak...
4:50 PM
And besides, she became abusive BEFORE you opened the door, right? How did she know you weren't handicapped too ? A bitch, I say....
4:52 PM
Next time, pretend to be blind as you exit the stall....

kiki,
at the risk of sounding un-PC, the least you could have done was to wash your hands!
nah, seriously, i think that you can use the stall, but if a disabled person comes in they should have first dibs on it. parking stalls, however, i think you should never park in--it's wrong, and bad karma and all.
oops, just slipped off my soapbox.

I dont want to seem insensitive because I am not but in the grand scheme of life I didnt think I was doing any real harm. I apologize to anyone who may be offended by this experience.
nic -- You and I ARE on the same page. I read your post and saw someone say that waiting for that stall is the same as anyone waiting for a stall...I tend to agree with that.
sonia -- I fell off my chair!! You are crazy!! SO funny!!!!
ludovic -- I know! I left with dirty hands! Horrible! Good thing I didnt work at concessions! I agree on the parking spots and I didnt see her when I walked into the stall or I truly would have stepped aside. I am with you 150% on the karma! I seem to have pretty good karma so I think my causes have outweighed my lapses in judgement. I only have done the parking spots in areas where I was in and out in a jiffy...maybe that helped ;) But I'll NEVER do it again! Lesson learned.

No, you aren't the only one who uses it.
WTF? Just 'cause she is in a wheelchair doesn't mean she gets to cut in line or be a bitch. My aunt who has been and will always ben in a wheelchair would NEVER dream of doing something like that.
Maybe I'm just jaded 'cause I've been around my aunt all my life, but I'd have given her a tongue lashing when I got out of the bathroom for being so rude.
